Sensor for Wind Turbine Rotor Blades (IMAGE) Technical University of Munich (TUM) Caption Researchers at the Technische Universitaet Muenchen have devised a way to monitor stresses on wind turbine rotor blades precisely and in real time. At the heart of their approach is a fiber-optic sensor that could be mounted on or built into rotor blades. An EXIST research transfer grant from the German federal government will help the researchers start a business to commercialize their technology, which could help both to protect wind turbine components and to optimize power generation.
