John Mayer, D.C., Ph.D., of the University of South Florida (Tampa, FL), directs the new FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant, which builds upon earlier research showing worksite exercise training for back and core muscles may reduce the risk of low back pain and disability in firefighters. He will partner with the the Tampa Bay area's three largest fire departments, to conduct the full-scale randomized, controlled prevention trial.
