Farmland ecosystems across Europe used to be dominated by often damaging outbreaks of common voles. The amplitude of vole outbreaks has declined across Europe, with a likely large impact on the functioning of ecosystems. This image relates to a paper that appeared in 5 April, 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Thomas Cornulier at the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, UK, and colleagues was titled, "Europe-Wide Dampening of Population Cycles in Keystone Herbivores."
