A study of two rare species of shootingstar that grow in cliff habitats, the jeweled shootingstar (middle) and French’s shootingstar (right) asked whether these are true species, glacial relicts now confined to refuge habitats, or variants of the widespread Mead’s shootingstar (left) that adapted to the cliff microclimates.
