This is multiyear pack ice along Greenland's north coast in the summer of 2007. The ice originates from the Siberian or North American shelves. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 5, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Svend Funder of the Natural History Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, "A 10,000-Year Record of Arctic Ocean Sea-Ice Variability -- View from the Beach."
