Tunneling Cope Rearrangement (IMAGE) Ruhr-University Bochum Caption The Cope rearrangement results in a product that is identical to the starting material. However, both forms have different energies. The energy barrier for the rearrangement (symbolized by the dotted line) cannot be overcome at low temperatures. Only when the carbon atom behaves like a wave (purple arrow) can it get round the barrier.
