Sir Robert Watson was elected Chair of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in 2016. From 1997 to 2002, he chaired the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on which IPBES was modelled.
