On Sept. 25 at 2:05 a.m. EDT (0605 UTC) the AIRS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite showed some strong thunderstorms (purple) in Pilar, as cold as or colder than minus 63 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 53 Celsius) along the coast, producing heavy rainfall.
