Since the observation of a breeding couple of monk parakeets in 1979, the population has grown to about 250 birds. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 22 Nov. 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by L. Reino at CIBIO/InBIO-Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos in Vairão, Portugal, and colleagues was titled, "Networks of global bird invasion altered by regional trade ban."
