Tracking Reactions Between Unstable Molecules (1 of 3) (IMAGE)
Caption
This shows the production of atomic nitrogen through the microwave discharge technique. The distinctive glow is due to slow emission from excited-state molecular nitrogen. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 16, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by J. Daranlot at the Université de Bordeaux in Talence, France, and colleagues, was titled, “Revealing Atom-Radical Reactivity at Low Temperature Through the N + OH Reaction.”
