Project offers new step toward study of emergence, 'materials by design,' and future nanomagnets (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers have used a D-Wave quantum-annealing computer as a testbed to examine the behavior of emergent magnetic monopoles. Shown here, emergent magnetic monopoles traverse a lattice of qubits in a superconducting quantum annealer. Nonzero flux programmed around the boundary creates a trapped monopole in the degenerate ground state.
