Isoform-specific, seed-dependent tau accumulation in tau-fibril-injected Tau 3R/4R mouse

Tau fibrils from AD, CBD, and PiD patients were injected into the brains of Tau 3R/4R mice, and the tau accumulation was stained with 3R tau-specific antibody (upper panel) and 4R tau-specific antibody (lower panel). AD fibril-injected mice showed accumulation of both 3R and 4R tau, CBD fibril-injected mice showed only 4R tau and no accumulation of 3R tau, and PiD fibril-injected mice showed only 3R tau and no accumulation of 4R tau. These results indicate that abnormal tau accumulation is induced in an isoform-specific, seed-dependent manner.
