Map shows species-formation rates for marine fish groups at a global scale. Red, orange and yellow indicate regions with faster rates of new species formation, while blue indicates relatively slow speciation rates. Examples of fast-evolving, high-latitude fish groups appear at the top and bottom -- Arctic fishes at the top, Antarctic fishes at the bottom. Examples of slower-evolving, tropical fish groups are in the boxes.
