Study of Bat Natural Immunity to Marburg Virus May Shed Light on Human Disease (IMAGE)
Caption
Egyptian rousette bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus), such as those photographed here in 2017 at Python Cave, Uganda, have been identified as the natural reservoir for Marburg virus, the first known filovirus and close relative of Ebola virus. Python cave was the site of two known spillover events to humans, one fatal, in 2007 and 2008.
