Nobel Prize-winning geneticist Mario Capecchi of the University of Utah has published a new study establishing a cause-and-effect link between the immune system and a psychiatric disorder. Capecchi and colleagues found that mutant immune cells named microglia make affected mice compulsively groom and pull out their hair. A similar disorder is fairly common in people.
