The Developing Brain (IMAGE)
Caption
As pregnancy progresses, the fetal brain grows larger and more complex, forming the foundation on which infants are able to learn to walk, run and speak; how children master new lessons in school; and how teenagers are able to hold a job and become productive adults. 3-D magnetic resonance images show human brain growth in the womb (18 gestational weeks, 26 gestational weeks, 32 gestational weeks) and in the postnatal period at 4 weeks of life.
