The left and center images are anatomical MR images that show how different structures in the brain grow during these first few years. In contrast, the image on the right shows the growth of cortical thickness, a quantitative measure of the thickness of cerebral cortex. This image shows the interesting way that cortical thickness varies during the first five years of life.
