From bottom left: University of Texas at Dallas researchers Jing Tian, a doctoral student in molecular and cell biology, Dr. Lan Guo, research assistant professor of biological sciences, and Dr. Heng Du, associate professor of biological sciences, investigate how neuronal communication is disrupted in Alzheimer's disease. In a study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, they found evidence suggesting that resistance to the "hunger hormone" ghrelin in the brain is linked to the cognitive impairments and memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease.
