Microscopic image of rat heart tissue, displayed in a heart-shaped window. Research led by the Babraham Institute has uncovered the molecular basis of dangerous cardiac growth (cardiac hypertrophy), pointing the way for the design of new treatments for heart disease. The red shapes are the nuclei of cardiomyocyte cells, blue show nuclei from other heart cell types. The pink striped areas identify proteins involved in contraction.
