JP2 Protein in Heart

Caption

A University of Iowa study shows that changes in microtubule density directly affect where a critical protein called junctophilin-2 (JP2) is located within heart cells. If JP2 is not in its proper location, heart muscle can't function properly, which leads to the development and progression of heart failure. The green areas in the images show the orderly nature of JP2 protein's distribution in normal human heart muscle (left panel) compared to the disorganized localization of the protein in unhealthy heart muscle (center and right panel).
