Improved Oil and Gas Recovery Research Will Benefit from US$50 Million in Funding (IMAGE)
Caption
A research agreement between the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Statoil will provide as much as US$50 million in research funding over the next eight years. The money will pay for more PhD positions and adjunct professors, but will also focus on basic and applied research designed to improve oil recovery from fields like the Norne field, off the northern coast of Norway. Instead of an oil platform for this field there is a production and storage ship tied to subsea templates. The ship has a processing plant on deck and storage tanks for stabilized oil.
