New Technique for Busting Blood Clots (IMAGE) North Carolina State University Caption A new technique, developed by researchers at NC State, UNC, and Michigan, uses an ultrasound "drill" to burst nanodroplets in and around hardened blood clots. As the nanodroplets burst into microbubbles, the ultrasound causes the microbubbles to oscillate -- disrupting the clot's physical structure.
