Students Participate in Project Budburst (IMAGE)
Caption
When first-year biology students signed up for University of Denver Professor Buck Sanford's newest class, they signed up for something bigger: a real-life probe into global warming with Project Budburst. The students are measuring tree buds as leaves emerge this spring and uploading their data into a national database. Gardeners, retirees, and other amateur plant enthusiasts across the country are also recording their observations. Scientists around the world will study Project Budburst records to see if global warming is affecting the timing of spring budding, leafing, and flowering.
