University of Illinois entomology professor Barry Pittendrigh (center, standing) coordinated the effort to sequence and analyze the human body louse genome. Other UI researchers on the project included (from left to right) entomology research scientist Weilin Sun and entomology professors Hugh Robertson and May Berenbaum. The initiative involved researchers at 28 institutions in the US, Europe, Australia and South Korea.
