One of the heated plots at the Harvard Forest in Massachusetts from which soil samples were collected for the study that uncovered giant virus genomes in a forest soil ecosystem for the first time. Funded by the National Science Foundation's Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program, Harvard Forest is home to the world's longest running soil-warming experiment.
