This confocal microscopic image shows an artery in the lung of a laboratory rat used to model the often-fatal condition pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The artery's vascular wall is thickening as noted by the red color in the wall's smooth muscle. Scientists report in Nature Communications a new therapeutic target for PAH.
