Neurons in the Cortex of a Mouse (IMAGE)
Caption
Neurons in the cortex of a mouse express proteins enabling the 'reading' and 'writing' of electrical activity. Six neurons arranged in the shape of a smiling face were simultaneously activated with light. The response of those neurons is color coded in green, indicating the successful activation of this neuronal pattern of activity. This experiment was performed during the acquisition of experimental data seeking to understand how patterns of activity propagate in the cortex.
