A very wrinkled Shar-Pei puppy nuzzles a smoother-skinned companion. Tiny genomic variations in the dog genome seem to suggest whether a Shar-Pei will be wrinkled or smooth, and a rare genetic mutation was found only in the Shar-Pei and not in other dogs in a Jan. 11, 2010, study.
