Rat Cerebellum (IMAGE) University of Iowa Health Care Caption The image is a cross-section of a rodent cerebellum stained to show cell bodies (blue) and parvalbumin calcium binding proteins (pink). A new University of Iowa study finds that frequency-specific stimulation of the cerebellum normalizes brain activity in the frontal cortex and corrects schizophrenia-like thinking problems in rats. The findings, published in Molecular Psychiatry, suggest that cerebellar stimulation might help improve cognitive problems in patients with schizophrenia.
