Graduate students Federico Furch, left, and Brendan Reagan work on the all diode-pumped laser system developed at Colorado State University where the multi-institutional NSF Extreme Ultraviolet Engineering Research Center is based. Reagan won the prestigious Theodore Maiman Student Paper Competition in 2010 -- beating a pool of 944 candidates -- on the 50th anniversary of Maiman's invention of the laser.
