The figure shows brain activation to pictures related to cocaine use in male and female cocaine users with a history of childhood trauma. The green arrow points to the amygdala. When males received placebo, the amygdala was very responsive to cocaine cues, but on oxytocin, this response diminished. The opposite was true for female cocaine users.
