The photo from Jan. 2015 depicts a nearly-snowless Tioga Pass in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park. This image highlights the dramatic effect of extremely low precipitation and record-high temperatures upon California's critically important mountain snowpack, even at the height of climatological winter.
