Cyst Concentrations (IMAGE) Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Caption Maps of the Gulf of Maine reveal the concentration of Alexandrium cysts buried in seafloor sediments, as detected by WHOI-led surveys in the fall of 1997, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. The cyst distribution maps are used with computer models that simulate different scenarios of weather and oceanographic conditions to indicate the range of toxic cell concentrations that might be expected in 2009 (as shown in associated maps).
