Simulated Co-evolutionary Landscape (IMAGE)
Caption
Scientists at Rice University and the University of Texas at Dallas constructed a simulated co-evolutionary landscape that can predict which mutants in a protein pair lead to functional signaling in bacteria. Minima in the landscape (blue) represent mutations that are predicted to function, whereas maxima (red) represent mutations that lead to nonfunctional signaling phenotypes.
