Stephen Rich, director of the Lab of Medical Zoology at UMass Amherst, says there are at present no validated or FDA approved tests for a new tick-borne pathogen in people. The LMZ and a diagnostic lab partner will conduct human testing on people that have submitted ticks to LMZ who are positive for Borrelia miyamotoi.
