<i>Eurhopalothrix zipacna</i>

This photo shows the magnified monster-like face of the ant Eurhopalothrix zipacna, named after Zipacna, a vicious, crocodile-like demon of Mayan mythology. Found in the mountains of Guatemala and Honduras, it is among 33 new ants species discovered in Central America and the Caribbean by Jack Longino, a biologist at the University of Utah.
