Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, is leading a project to collect microbe-rich sediments from the floor of Guaymas Basin, located in the Gulf of California. Hatzenpichler and his colleagues will use a $1 million National Science Foundation grant to research the microbes' role in carbon cycling.
