The Proposed AOP for Respiratory Sensitization (IMAGE)
Caption
The proposed AOP for respiratory sensitization includes covalent binding of low-molecular-weight chemicals to lung or skin proteins (a), the activation of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines and cytoprotective gene pathways typical of a Th2 immune response (b), activation and migration of Th2-skewed dendritic cells to lymph nodes (c), T cell activation, proliferation, and polarization (d) leading to sensitization of the respiratory tract. Th2, T helper 2.
