Terahertz Wave Activates Filamentation of Actin

Actin forms filaments in cells and plays essential roles in multiple cellular functions including cell motility, cell division, and gene expression (left). By monitoring the polymerization reaction of purified actin protein under THz irradiation, it was found that THz wave activates the filamentation of actin.
