Clemson scientist Cheryl Ingram-Smith has been awarded a $424,000 NIH grant to study the inner workings of a parasite called Entamoeba histolytica, which infects 500 million people annually around the world and causes up to 100,000 deaths. Ingram-Smith's research is focusing on a pair of unusual enzymes that appear to enable the parasite to thrive.
