This is a schematic of paCaMKII. LOV2-Jα domain derived from plant protein, phototropin 1, was fused to calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII). Blue light absorption causes a reversible conformational change of LOV2 domain, leading to dissociation of the kinase domain. This structurally released kinase activates downstream signaling molecules that are required for the induction of synaptic plasticity.
