Extending Length of Surgical Trainees' Shifts Does Not Affect Surgical Patients' Safety (VIDEO)
Caption
Extending the length of surgical trainees' shifts does not affect surgical patients' safety. Results of a landmark national randomized trial of resident duty hour policies show flexible, less restrictive policies are safe for patients, reduce handoffs from surgeon to surgeon, and lead to greater resident satisfaction. The trial results are published online in The New England Journal of Medicine on Feb. 2, 2016 (11:30a.m., ET).
