Bacterial enterobactin (Ent), at right, inhibits the host antibacterial protein myeloperoxidase (MPO), which is present in white blood cells, at top left. In turn, white blood cells produce the protein Lipocalin 2 (Lcn2) that inhibits Ent and protects MPO, at bottom left.
