How Cancer Metastasizes To Bone (IMAGE)
Caption
In this microscope image, breast cancer cells (green) are invading bone. A team of researchers led by Princeton University's Mark Esposito and Yibin Kang found that metastasizing breast cancer cells (green) can hijack a molecule called E-selectin (white) to make the E-selectin nurture young cancer cells. They also identified that the protein Glg1 (purple) plays a role in this process, and that it is useful as a predictor for bone metastasis.
