Top: Migrating fibroblasts reach out with veil-like protrusions known as lamellipodia. Bottom: Fibroblasts without a functional Arp2/3 complex are unable to form lamellipodia. Instead they form spiky edges known as filopodia. Actin is shown in red, ARP2 is in green, and DNA in blue.
