Cornstarch, Water and Cell Membranes (VIDEO) University of Oregon This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Caption This video opens with footage of a common cornstarch and water experiment. Ian Oberst, a visiting student from Portland Community College who participated in the University of Oregon's UCORE program for undergraduates interested in science, is seen "walking" and "jumping" on the watery mixture to illustrate its elasticity when perturbed aggressively. The rest of the video is of UO physicist Raghuveer Parthasarathy, explaining his lab's surprising discovery that the thin layer of molecules on cell membranes have the same properties. Oberst produced the giant vat under the supervision of UCORE director Dean Livelybrooks, not as part of the cell-membrane project.
