Field Work, Fukushima (IMAGE) University of Liverpool Caption Dr. James Cooper (Liverpool) was interested in understanding how radioactive materials released from the Fukushima nuclear plant were deposited on the land surface and the forest canopy, and what then drives transport of these materials from the tree to the soil, through and across the soil, and eventually into agricultural crops and water resources. The new imaging sensor that we are working towards in the current project has the potential to significantly increase the speed, scope of such studies, allowing more detailed measurements and more flexible experiment designs.
