Australia's oldest rock painting is a kangaroo (VIDEO)
Caption
A painting of a two metre-long kangaroo belongs to a style of Aboriginal rock art previously identified as Australia's oldest known style of painted figures. The kangaroo is painted on the sloping ceiling of a rock shelter in Balanggarra country, above the Drysdale River in the northeastern Kimberley region of Western Australia. Radiocarbon dating of three mud wasp nests overlying and a further three nests underlying the painting show that it was painted around 17,300 years ago.
