David Baker Institute for Protein Design (VIDEO)
Caption
David Baker of the University of Washington Institute for Protein design discusses the creation of mini-protein binders as potential targeted therapeutics against neurotoxins, flu viruses, and other troublesome agents. A brief tour of his lab shows where computational design of new proteins takes place, and where the proteins are grown in yeast and tested. These so-called "de novo" proteins did not exist in nature until they were created in the lab.
