University of Nebraska-Lincoln researchers were part of a team that found stable ferroelectricity in a sheet of strontium titanate only a few nanometers thick. Standing near an atomic force microscope used to confirm the discovery are, from left: Haidong Lu, postdoctoral researcher; Alexei Gruverman, professor of physics and astronomy; Evgeny Tsymbal, professor of physics and astronomy; and Tula R. Paudel, research assistant professor. The scientists are affiliated with the Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience. Tsymbal is director of the NSF-supported Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at UNL.
